It sounds like you are somewhat new to the long(ish) range shooting so the scope you pick now should be something that is easy to learn with and to operate.

With that in mind, I would be looking for something with
- moderate magnification range: 3-9x, 3-15x, 3-10x, etc
- moderate objective bell size: 36 to 44mm
- FFP (front focal plane) reticle so that you do not have two worry which magnification you are at when using the reticle for holdover or range estimation

Your 716 is a nice gun, but it was never intended as a 1000yard gun.  Think of it as something that will get you out to 800 yards with reasonable comfort if you put in some practice time.

Affordable FFP scopes are far and few in between.

Two that I like quite a bit (and have both) are already mentioned here: SWFA SS 3-9x42 and 3-15x42.

3-15x42 is a little better beyond 500 yards.
3-9x42 is a little easier to use (no side-focus) and a touch better in low light

Another option that might actually be a good idea for you since it is pretty straightforward ot use is one of PFI's Rapid Reticle scopes.

Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 with the FFP reticle is a good scope that is a little bit big for your rifle, but might work.

The smaller Vortex Viper 2.5-10x32 would be a better option.

Personally, I would probably lean toward keeping it simple and sticking with a scope that is not too big.

Get SWFA SS 3-9x42 with Mil-Quad reticle for $600 and take a precision rifle class.
