Another thing to keep in mind is that the whole business with fixed power scopes being "brighter" than equivalent variable scopes is basically a myth with modern designs.  A few extra lenses here and there effect light transmission, but it is a rather simple fact that light transmission by itself is not very important in a riflescope.  Light transmission is a very useful marketing tool since most people do not bother to think about it and touting high light transmission is a simple way for sales people to mislead and obfuscate the consumer.

Gonna disagree with you on that one.  To a hunter, light transmission is much more important than color rendition IMO.  I also know how bright the FX3 6x42 is compared to a conquest, VX3, etc, and it is one of the brightest scopes around until you get into the high end euro stuff.  Some very well known hunters have tested loads of glass and come to the same conclusions.  Fixed scopes are also more reliable than variables.

We have gone over this before, but I suppose I'll give it another shot.

Within reasonable limits, light transmission has very little to do with how bright an image through a scope looks to a human eye.

Everything you just said about brightness has little to do with light transmission.  However, while we are at it, how about you tell me what you mean by terms "light transmission" and "brightness".

Otherwise, we will be going around in circles like the last few times this came up.
