Subject: Which scope to buy??

I don't care to join the pissing contest but I thought the scope JG recommended was a good choice. I have the FX-3 6X42 on a CZ550 in 9.3X62. If I had a 7 mag, and used it to hunt over 300 yards I'd probably want more magnification, that's just personal preference though. Pretty near all my shots are less than 200 yards though, and for that, the FX-3 is a great scope. I know little about optics engineering and manufacturing, how many lenses they contain and so on, but I will tell you first hand, this scope is sharp and bright. I like fixed power scopes. If you need to make a fast shot, you don't have to worry about what you left the magnification set at-it's always the same. I wish Leupold would make this scope with an illuminated reticle similiar to the VX-R series. Would be a great piece of glass for hunting hogs at night. Another plus is that you can get this from the Custom Shop. Mine has a German #4 reticle, CDS and gloss finish that looks really nice on a CZ. I know some of you are only concerned with functionality, but to me, a shiny rifle needs a shiny scope. The light weight and compactness is an added bonus. All that said, for a simple, fixed power scope, it wouldn't bankrupt Leupold to lower the price on these. One would think that these would be less expensive to build than variables.
