Subject: AO or not to AO that is the question??

In the last year I have been target shooting with a dial in turret scope at ranges out to 1175yds. with my 338 and NF setup with great results. In the past I have hunted with a set it and forget it setup . This past year I hunted with a Burris 3-9 w bdc and was proficient out to 600yd . I like the setup on my 300 that I tromp the Rockies but I am limited to 600yds with the plex I am considering putting a vx3 4.5-14 x40 with cds. since it seems kinda compact for my mtn rifle setup. For a elk hunting rifle how do you folks feel about the AO vs. the non-AO model. I am wanting a scope that will offer the ability to dial in to the 800yd range (20moa) I realize that parallax will have to be dealt with in the non AO model but it is a more compact package.
