Subject: Scope for Rem 700 5R 300 WM?

I’d appreciate input on a great scope and mount combinationfor a Remington 700 5R 300 Win mag rifle (my first center fire). I just purchased the rifle; it has a heavy 26”SS barrel and hefty synthetic stock. They are a limited production product know for excellent precision. I plan on using it primarily for AZ orwestern KS elk and deer hunting, respectively, and the needed range time tobecome proficient up to 300 yards. I’dalso like to try my hand at hitting gongs at 1K yards if the only local(Phoenix) range I know of provides that, or while visiting the family farm inKS. I’ve not hunted large game before, but being from rural KS, retired from the Army (chair-borne medical job), andlots of high-end air rifle time, I consider myself a good shot. I chose a heavy rifle to help manage recoiland for a bit of tacticool.
With that bit of information, I’m presently leaning toward aLeica 3.5-14X42 ER scope with an IBS G7 reticle. I’m also considering a LaRue P-rail for along action 700 with 20 MOA and their ultralow rings. I believe that combination would work greatand look OK. Avoiding hassles duringhunting is prioritized over tacticool looks.
If anyone has experience with that general type ofrifle/scope combination, I’d appreciate their input on the sanity of that planor other recommendations. I’d like tostay under $2K on the scope because I can’t envision the need to spend anymore.
Thanks!
