2 piece base: For the movement at 100 yards divided by the distance between outside of the rings. (This has to be very precise) times the height of the shim. Say the distance between the outside of the rings is 5.025" 100 yards =3600 inches shim .020
3600/5.025=716.418*.020=14.328"
On a 1 piece rail measure the distance from the opposite end of the rail where the shim is placed. Ring spacing will not be used.
