The tube on the Tasco also is a bit soft Ive had several of them and for what they cost they are not a bad scope but many of their scopes are not as tough as the Super Sniper which was designed to Military Specs. Any scope designed to Mil specs will be tougher.

I think you would ultimately be happy with any of the following Zeiss Conquest, Bushnell Elite, Leupold VX3 or FX3, Redfield, Nikon, Weaver, Vortex Viper, Sightron. The closer you get to the $500 limit the more of your wish list you should be able to get. I dont see you needing adjustable parallax unless you are over 10x then it becomes more important. I know guys who just swear by their Burris scopes and think they are great but Ive had several and the one has been awesome while the others have failed.
If you extended your price range there are other more expensive scopes which would definately meet your needs but when you cap the price you usually have to settle for a portion of your wish list not all of it. there are some good scope reviews here: http://opticsthoughts.com/index.php/rifle-scopes/4-rifle-scope-reviews
"Do your thoughts on toughness extend across the entire brand(s), or only certain lines within a brand?"
primarily their better lines you get what you pay for sometimes less never more.
