Yep Rifledude,
Sambar. They were released 130 years ago. They are normally found in the state south of me , but a few have turned up on my place in the last year. There is the odd fallow getting around too but they are normaly abit more north. You can also find pigs or goats if you go for a drive. ferals are a major problem over here, there's no natural predators. You can hunt all year round on your own place and most of the year in other areas. Spent a few years over in the states mainly northeast ,Vermont area, my buddies were deer crazy and alittle must of rubbed off.
Rancid Coolaid ,
its a 30-06.Ammo easy to find and cheaper. 7mm rem or a wsm would be good too but ammo can cost you double of the 30-06.In the state south of me the minimum calibre for sambar is 270. Sambar are about the same size as elk and with thick skin, so its good to be able to use heavier projectiles if you want.
Saying all that, one poked its head out the other day and I had a 222 handy ,may of got lucky but it did the job. Shot placement is key.
