![]() I am a huge fan of the FX3 6x42 w/heavy duplex, and also a huge fan of the 2-12x42 VX6. It has fantastic glass, more than good enough to exceed legal shooting light. If I were in dense woods with this scope, I'd look hard at the fire dot duplex that is offered on that VX6. You do not need to spend anywhere near $2k to do what you're wanting to do. |

I have the Leupold VX-6 2-12x42 with fire dot duplex and it has the best reticle for woods hunting and low light I've ever used. The low light performance is as good as my Leica ER 2.5-10x42. The Leica having just a tad more contrast but the reticle is nowhere near as good in low light.
My personal choice for extreme low light hunting, price no object, would be the Zeiss Victory HT 1.5-6x42 #60 (illuminated) reticle. I have an aversion to scopes with larger objectives than 42mm. Believe me, 6x is plenty for shooting deer out to at least 300 yards.
