Im a relative newb and shopping for a high magnification optic as a range toy for my 308 Remmy 700 LTR. Seems I cant afford a mil/mil scope at $500 and I dont want a Mil reticle paired with MOA turrets.

Im a relative newb and shopping for a high magnification optic as a range toy for my 308 Remmy 700 LTR. Seems I cant afford a mil/mil scope at $500 and I dont want a Mil reticle paired with MOA turrets.
So anyways Im considering the vortex BDC reticle on the 6.5-20x50 viper which, unlike the Mil dot reticle has its subtensions at varying distances. like the first hash mark on the bottom is 1.5moa from the reticle, then 4.5, 7.5, and 11moa. How is this useful/consistent/easy to use? Should I just try to get by with the standard reticle?
