I have/had the ZV3 3-9x40 (Chinese) and just recently ordered the 3-9x50 (American). I had a problem with the erector binding up on the chinese one. I sent it back to Minox for repair, which has taken quite a while, but they are really great to deal with on the phone. I was actually really impressed with the glass though, especially since I got it for $159. It was really close to my Vortex Viper 2-7x32, in daylight they were pretty much identical to my eyes. Naturally, it blows away my older Leupold Vari-X and Vari-X II in clarity and light transmission, but they are 18 year old scopes.

The American model should be here any day, looking forward to checking it out; can't beat $229 on closeout! We'll see how it holds up under 300 win recoil.
Minox told me they have identical coatings, different glass. Schott on the American ZA, and Chinese glass on the ZV made to their spec. Of course, the mechanicals are supposed to be more robust on the ZA series.
