Right. But a #4 isn't all that useful on a fox at 425 yards and the Winter rifle is not primarily a close range rifle. When the leaves are gone and snow covers everything the ranges can increase ALOT. Any old duplex works fine at close range.
I've played around with my variable scopes and 6× is useful at 30' . The farthest game animals I've taken were with scopes set on 6× and the very farthest was with a fixed 3× .
But, having never range estimated with a reticle and the long term toughness of the fixed SS scopes. " not having to worry if it departed from its zero. I would like the SS on my rifle. The 3-9 SS is above my price range at this time.
So my? Remains, how useful is the 6×42 SS scope for learning range estimation. And if it isn't, why?
Thanks
