I have a new-to-me older japanese-made bushnell banner fixed 6x32 scope. Once upon a time it had a ballistic turret on top (and was made to have one, complete with small opening in the metal around the turret to read the numbers on the cap. As of now, the old knob is MIA and i'm left with the chunk of tooth'd metal it used to sit on which makes it incredibly difficult to adjust. Can anyone tell me what kind of knob fits there and if there's a source to get one? Thanks!

You'll have to find someone who has got one of those Ballistic Dials.  [ Bullet Drop Compensator is what Bushnell called them. ]  I had a 4X12 Bushnell years ago and the scope came with four different dials for that top turret.  You read the manual and used the one appropriate to your caliber.

Well, you just want one so you can turn the dial...you need to ask around and see if anyone has got any laying around.  In the old days all the new Bushnells would have had four to begin with.  Somebody's got to have some laying around.

I'd pick the Sightron in that matchup.   Not a fan of the 8-32 range on that 4200

Hello I am trying to get some info on this scope like;
1. dependability
2. Caliber rifle it would be good for (if at all)
3. What it is worth
It is in great shape and sat in my fathers safe for awhile never used or looks like it was ever mounted.
If anyone could help I would appreciate it the customer support at Pentax couldn't tell me anything.
Also the serial number on the tube is
201022
Thanks
Dan

For Leica and Swaro, I would recommend watching the sample list on a regular basis. Expect to save $300 or so for a like new scope.

The Golden 5-Star was Redfield's budget scope, intended to compete against the Vari X-II Leupold.  They sold for about $150. or more for the 4-12, depending on model in the 1980-90's.  Originally they were built in Denver.  In the 1990's they moved these to Asia and they faded out of the scene, being budget scopes to begin with.

Warranties are for people like my wife who believe that if they stand behind their product, they will warranty it.  Plus, she is not technical or a shooter and needs other assurances of quality.

Warrantys in great degree represent the companies desire to continue doing business with the guy who bought from them the first time.   If you buy something with no warranty as is there is a guarantee that they guy you bought it from does not care or expect you back.   I recently had a truck repair that was estimated at $750 parts and labor however Chevrolet had a service advisory on the part and did the work at no charge even though the truck is 9 years old well past warranty.  I can only conclude that Chevrolet wants my next purchase to also be from them.

We are looking for information; on where we can get Redfield scopes repaired. We have over 20 Redfield Illuminators, with Accu-Tracs, & BDC; which need repaired.

We have another 10-15 Redfields, such as Golden 5 Stars, & Low Pros; most of which, have the Accu-Trac, with BDC. Almost all of them, need repaired.

We have tried ABO, & Iron Sights. Neither are acceptable.

Iron sights, will take your money, then spend a year, or so, before returning your scope. We tried them two times. They did the same thing both times. Neither scope was repaired, when we got it back.

ABO isn't any good either. We have sent them over 10 different Redfields. Half of them; we have had to send back, to be repaired again.

We just had three; 3-9 Illuminators, with Accu-Trac, & BDC repaired (by ABO). They took over 6 months. The repair bill, on these three scopes, was $610.00. First one, had to be sent back because the cross hairs were loose (we had to pay the freight, but they warrantied it). The second one, broke the ocular lens, first shot out of the box. Fourth shot, broke the cross hair. We sent it back. ABO now wants us to pay another $250.00, to repair this scope; AGAIN. We told them, to return it to us.

ABO is not only incompetent; they do sloppy, slip shod work; & they do not stand behind it.

If anyone out there knows where we can actually get these scopes repaired; so they work, please let us know.

We are probably going to have to repair them ourselves. Does anyone know where we could get instructions, on how to tear a Redfield apart? Any help here, would be greatly appreciated.

How about the spanner wrenches required, to remove the lenses? I have a hunch, they are manufactured, by the scope companies; themselves. Anyone have any information, on where we could obtain any of these tools?

Well, I don't think anyone is going to be selling a little plastic circle like that.  It would be in someone's spare parts bin.  I myself had three extras, but that was 35 years ago.  I have no idea what ever happened to those little guys.

hph04a doesn't need a Caliber-Appropriate one necessarily---he just needs one so he can grab it and turn the elevation knob in order to sight it in.
