Thank you for your comments, and Kickboxer I will consider the Hensoldt 6-24X56 for sure, the top series from Zeiss probably the best in overall optical quality.

It fulfills more of my requirements than any other scope I've encountered. Where it really shines is low light performance (get it? shines... low light). It is similar to the Zeiss Victory 6-24x72, but with lens coatings optimized for low light and CA-elimination. It is a dream to shoot with and makes what I find as deficiencies seem trivial. It is truly "astronomy class".
Thanks for the input guy! I mounted mine on an AR15 build to test out this weekend but it’ll probably find a home on my CZ 6.5x55 rifle for long distance hunting. My first impressions are very positive but the proof’s in the shooting. This makes Vortex Viper #5 for me, one of which is an older but identical, non HS 6.5x24 which I dearly love. It reside atop a bull barel Remington 700 (308) for benchrest paper plinking.
I am currently using a set of their ultra low rings and have had three different scopes (SS3-9, 2.5-10 PST and SS5-20) in them and have not had a problem with ring marks or any other marks on my scopes. I did not lap them, but don't see how it would hurt.
![]() I have been using only TPS rings for the last couple years, and love this feature. It makes keeping the reticle level during mounting much easier in my experience. What are your concerns about the design? |
