Thank you for your comments, and Kickboxer I will consider the Hensoldt 6-24X56 for sure, the top series from Zeiss probably the best in overall optical quality.

For the money, I think it is a very good buy.  I don't own one but did get the opportunity to handle one locally.  I was pretty impressed and liked the glass better than my old Nikon Monarch.  Not as good as my Conquest, but difference isn't significant.

Nice thing is the sale also includes their 2.5-10X and 4-16X scopes with the plex reticle.

Update:  I talked to a guy from Bushnell about their Butler Creek products and he said that these "Blizzard" lens covers seem to have a typo. Where it says a particular size will fit on a certain diameter, they messed up big time as none of the sizes listed are accurate to the real thing. The lens cover that will fit is the size 01 eye, or the size 03 obj. Hopefully this will serve as information to anyone else who might have this problem.

I purchased a couple of weaver K3 scopes (with the post and crosshair reticle of course) to put on my Mosin Nagant. Trouble is, I don't think it will hold up to the big recoil. The first one I bought is a k3w Wide view scope. It feels very sturdy and solid and has a good weight to it, so I assume it will hold up a while. The second is a k3 60 but it is significantly lighter which worries me. I want to make sure the k3 60 will be alright to take a beating

Well, the K3 60 is about 55 years old.  Jack O'Connor had an old K2.5 on a 416 Rigby back in 1959.

The W wide ones would be from 1973 till 1983.  I had Weavers from that era on 30-06s and they were rock tough.  I, personally, would not get excited about Weavers that are over 50 years old....because there are too many newer Weavers out there.  I like the K dash 1 series and the K dash 1 Micro-Tracs which I think have better coatings than the K dash 1s. The Micro Tracs came out in 1978.  Bulletproof.  Brighter than Leupold M8s.

I had one for a while a couple years ago. I thought it was a very good scope. I had it on a .223 wssm and if fit it nicely. Great for a longer range varmint gun or target gun. IMO it would not be a good big game scope as the low mag is to high. Glass was good, adjustments were true. Overall a decent scope IMO

It fulfills more of my requirements than any other scope I've encountered.  Where it really shines is low light performance (get it? shines... low light).  It is similar to the Zeiss Victory 6-24x72, but with lens coatings optimized for low light and CA-elimination.  It is a dream to shoot with and makes what I find as deficiencies seem trivial.  It is truly "astronomy class".

I have the 4-16x44 model and I think its almost as good as my vx3 lr 4.5-14x40. It bothers me that its discontinued. Maybe its not selling.

I was able to go out and shoot with a couple from church yesterday.
He shoots a factory Remmy 300 RUM, and is still relatively new to LR.
His wife hadn't shot a centerfire rifle, but was interested in LR shooting.
For about a half hour I did a little coaching at the house working on basics.
Her husband had never used a Burris E-3 scope before, so was on the carpet checking it out after I got the basics finished.
Then it was off to Mac's Gunworks to play on some steel.
Her two biggest challenges was seeing through the scope with the full field of view and trigger pull.
The third issue was learning to use the rear bag properly, but that was minimal.
10" A-500 steel.
Every shot was hit until she went to 600 yards.
That is where the form issues begin to show themselves clearly.
Remember this was her first time ever use a centerfire rifle and a scope.
She started with 10 power and before the afternoon was over she was running everything at 14 power with no problems.
At 450 & 500 yards once she got her trigger pull down she began clustering shots that were touching on a fairly regular basis. There were a few hiccups with a few shots high but overall she was shooting awesome.

I used the 4" to 5" steel targets and ran from 200 yards to 600 (100 yard increments) yards then shot 800 & 1000 yards on 10" & 12" steel.
When she was ready for break, her husband was able to shoot it and went out to thousand yards with success.
I think she is hooked!
After taking a break from shooting she finished up at 450 yards and 500 yards.
No misses.
I am very proud of her!!!

Thanks for the input guy! I mounted mine on an AR15 build to test out this weekend but it’ll probably find a home on my CZ 6.5x55 rifle for long distance hunting. My first impressions are very positive but the proof’s in the shooting. This makes Vortex Viper #5 for me, one of which is an older but identical, non HS 6.5x24 which I dearly love. It reside atop a bull barel Remington 700 (308) for benchrest paper plinking.

Broken scopes. If you.need to.see if a scope is tough enough.to live just put it on.a bear rifle and let some coastal bush Alaskan use it for a year or 2 . . I've broke all that I owned. A friend has broke the reticle out of the top of the line S+B, Ziess, and Swarovski.
Compared to a coastal bush Alaskan Tactical shooters baby their rifles.   .
Granted the 1-4x20 VX ll and the 1.5-5×20 VXlll take a lot of abuse. Actually, I guess I did not break the fixed 3× 20 Leupold that I had on a 375 that I built. But, tho I shot italot I was very careful with it.

So, tho they are a little short on eye relief I'm gonna try the 1-6 SWFA scope on my 9.3×64 . I'm hoping that with the etched reticle it will hold up.
If it does I'll put one on my 416 and try the 1-4 on my 458 .

Rifle Scopes : TPS rings.. interesting design??

I just got a set of TPS rings in from SWFA today and was going over the instructions. I have never seen a ring designed like this and would not have used these unless I could find the right height.  I needed a ring that was between 1.12" and 1.25" in height and the TPS came in @ 1.18".

Anywho, there is an index mark on one side of the ring and one on the cap to match. The side with the index mark is tightened down completely which leaves a gap on the other side and then by torquing the other side snugs the optic in.  A ring set designed to have a gap on one side and not the other.  I am not sure if this is a good thing or not.
Has anyone used these and how are they?  I am deff not gonna strap a $3.5k optic into them at least not without lapping the hell out of em if I think there is any chance of marring my scope.

I have been using only TPS rings for the last couple years, and love this feature. It makes keeping the reticle level during mounting much easier in my experience.

What are your concerns about the design?

I am currently using a set of their ultra low rings and have had three different scopes (SS3-9, 2.5-10 PST and SS5-20) in them and have not had a problem with ring marks or any other marks on my scopes. I did not lap them, but don't see how it would hurt.

Great rings for the money. I have used probably a half of dozen different sets and never had to lap any of them. Another positive is none of them ever left a mark on any of the scopes being used.
