Interestingly, my Nikon camera always makes me even sexier than I already am, if you can believe that!

I didn't think that was possible, given how much time you already spend virtually fighting off supermodels (mostly male ones according to Big Daddy).

Their sports optics division, metrology division, and camera division operate like entirely different companies. I always had the impression that they never really put much resources or effort into their sports optics, relatively speaking.

I don’t think there’s any concern about them abandoning camera products, as they just introduced an entirely new lens mount system (Z mount) and new high end mirrorless bodies to go with them.

I like their nicer camera products but have never been a fan of most of their sport optics save for a couple binos they used to offer.

I was hesitant to even bring it up out of concern you’d think I was bragging and didn’t want to dog pile on your lot in life my friend.

Shortly after Ted got his fancy Nikon he sent me a couple portraits of himself.

My 24 year old son is wanting me to sell his brand new Meopta Meostar R1 4-16x44 duplex reticle scope so that he an buy a Bergara BMP 308. For some reason he wants the Bergara badly and is willing to part ways with an excellent scope. I think he just wants a somewhat precision rifle built on an AR platform and the Bergara has many of the features he's looking for. His thought process is to buy the rifle, put his Leupold VX2 on it for a short time (I know) until he can obtain a somewhat tactical scope in the $400 to $700 range. I've advised him to strongly consider the 3-15 SWFA SS, or maybe the Burris XTR, or maybe the Bushnell Elite Tactical in the same variable range. What are some other somewhat tactical scopes in that price range that have decent optics with dependable turret adjustments that he should consider?

I'd stick to the SS.  There is a lot to be said about the track record.

For post from me so take it for what it's worth.

3-15 SS is a heck of a value.  Mine performs on par with scopes I've paid much more for.

Also, for $799 he can get a Steiner P4Xi 4-16.

Tell him to save up a bit, keep the scope and buy the rifle when he can afford it...?

They're loss to the handgun optics sector will be felt. I loved their 2 and 2.5-8X and considered them to be some of the best offerings in the industry.

Nikon's muzzle loader scope with ballistic reticle has been very useful.  I also have the 2.5-8 pistol scope both of which have been good tools.  The muzzle loader scope I had two years is better than the first generation that they  made of it.
Burris is the line I have had the most product failure issues with but their fixed power  1x scout scopes were tough as nails .... until they quit making it. .......
Sometimes it baffles me why scope manufacturers discontinue a product nobody else makes that is a really useful tool, but I've seen almost all of them do it. I can only guess that like most large organizations idiots float to the top levels of management.

SA farmed out any repairs of their scopes.  I've got the info around somewhere... I'll look for it.  Unless you are the original owner, proof required, they will not perform any warranty work.

Sad Looks like Chris isn't going to put the 5-20x50 HD SS on sale this year.  I was really hoping he would.  I bought one last year...shoulda bought two.
