I concur. This scope was made for an AR type platform, but works great on a bolt gun too.

I can't believe no one has recommend the SS 3-9 or 3-15 yet. Big Smile

I don't know what stock you have, but with the CTR and Seekins low (.82") rings the cheek weld is just right on. If you don't need a QR mount the rings are super solid and really light.

I was baffled by that too, Jon!

I received this response from Kahles today:

Hello and thank you for contacting Kahles Optics,

This model is not currently sold in the US but we are working on offering new optics to our hunting line in the coming years. The 2-7 is an optic we would really like to bring to the US but the manufacturing and importing costs of this scope make it very expensive in the US. This scope would sale for nearly 1400 in the US with the 15% import tax.

Regarding technology, the KX line has the pinnacle of lens coatings and optical design. This is the latest and most state of the art system we are offering at the moment. To your eye, same power range and conditions, you would notice a more brilliant color through the KX over the AH CL line. These still are great scopes even though they are aged, as I use a AH 3-9x42 for short range hunting and have never been left wanting more for what I use it for. The KXi, which we currently offer is a 3.5-10x50 optic with illumination. if you are looking for an incredibly durable and lightweight scope, please consider this optic.MSRP is 1488 on it and it is offered with two reticles. The 4D and 4D-Dot.

Regards, and please let me know if you have any questions or if i can be of additional support,
Ken

I'd stay with the 3-9x42 model.  I do have  the 6x on hunting guns and I have both the mil dot and mil quad reticles and at 6x I prefer the mil dot because it is a tad bolder in appearance while the 6x mil quad is very fine.   With the 3-9 the mil marks are pretty fine at the lower powers with mil quad but at 9x Mil Quad is way better than mil dot. Hope that helps.  Once you get to 9x and above I prefer the Mil Quad reticle which at 16x is a wonderful tool.  A lot of which scope is correct depends on how you hunt because if a guy is doing lots of stalking then a hevy reticle with a low power is needed and if it is from a stand at distance and one has a solid rest I really like 16x to 20x to look at the rack.  One can bet by with even a 6x at long range if one has a spotting scope along to get a closer look. The 10x scopes have for years been the go to choice but the 6x is brighter in low light.

I have the 4-16x50 ffP version mounted on a heavy barreled 22-250 that I use mainly for target shooting and some long range varmint hunting. I really like the scope and for the money think that it is hard to beat. I do think the glass could be better and the field of view seems a little narrow but it tracks like a dream and I love the reticle and the matching turrets.

The SWFA SS's don't have a zero stop at the moment but the turns are marked with numbers/graduations so it hard to get "lost" in the dial.

You'll get more scope for your money with the SS than you will any other you mentioned.

I'd go with one of the Leupold rimfire scopes.  The 3-9x33 EFR would be an excellent choice as it would allow you to set prallax at your specific distances.  don't know how available those are in your part of the world though.  Availability could be an issue.

If u get the ss 5-20x it has 10 mils per turn knob. It will likely based of what u said be used past one turn very seldom. So a zero stop becomes pretty unimportant.

Sorry another illuminated scope question ?
Most I see recommended on here are out of my price range so I would like your thoughts on mid priced illuminated scopes,  between $400-800 would be perfect.

Here's my problem, I know I should go better glass with a 4 reticle before illuminated scope.
But this week I was out, light was fading fast I could hear a buck coming toward me . Where I hunt the trees have dark or black bark and the deer are very dark in colour. I was using a sightron Sll 3-9x42mm with a finer duplex, the reticle was easily lost in the background and when the deer briefly stepped out I would of been guessing on shot placement,I didn't take the shot.I have never used a 4 reticle but I think it too maybe hard to make out on a dark animal and with dark trees in the background. So now I think a illuminated reticle would be handy.
Shots taken in fading light are normally inside 150m but during the day I'd like to be able to reach the 400m mark.
  Scopes I've been looking at;
3.5-10x44mm Meopro redzone
4-12x 50mm VX-R or VX3 with illum ret ( I don't like the illum up on the eyebox)
3-9x40mm Accupoint

I know there are the 56mm illum scopes but there are a bit more than I can afford.

Your thoughts on the scopes I've listed or any other scope you think might suit are much appreciated.
( Its going on a new weatherby 30 06 I just brought)

Merry xmas,
Oyster

The VXR illumination is pretty darn nice.  But so is the Accupoint, but it will cost you more.

Been out if the loop for a bit....looking for info on latest and greatest, or tried and true.

Just ordered a winchester 70 featherweight in 257. Usage will be hunting with max expected range to be 350 or so. Looking for illuminated German number 4 reticle, could live without illuminated but set on the reticle. Thinking a typical 3-9, 2-10 something like that. Maybe even a fixed 4 if that got me better optical quality. Budget 600 or less...ideas?   Thanks

If I got fixed was thinking the IOR 4x. Probably should have bought an extra Minox za5 when they were clearances last year or whenever. I'll take a look at the Meopta no experience with them.

Supertool73,
I've heard the vx-r has good illumination, do you know how the glass stacks up against the others? I read it about the same as the vx2.
